Apply Now for the Online Course on Innovations in Youth Employment

The Future of Work in Africa: Innovations in Youth Employment is a six week online professional development course which will cover both the obstacles and challenges of African Youth employment with a focus on innovative solutions and promising new initiatives. Each week participants will explore models, methodologies and the sectors critical to creating employment opportunities in Africa. In order to create a rich learning experience, the course will be comprised of a select group of program managers, policy makers, fellows and innovators chosen based on their background and work in the sector. Together the goal is to create new connections and generate new ideas for developing a future of work that can advance the social economic status of African communities.
This course is being produced as part of Future Forward, a partnership between Ashoka, the world’s largest network of social innovation and entrepreneurship, and The Mastercard Foundation that aims to identify and support the most innovative social entrepreneurs. The entirety of this course is delivered online with a total time commitment of 2-5 hours per week. It is designed to be highly interactive and social, but we also work hard to ensure that the majority of the content can be experienced in a self-paced manner. To enhance the interactive nature of the course, each week we will be featuring at least one real-time interaction, such as live discussions and live guest expert interviews along with discussion boards, readings, and videos.

  • Week 4: Youth Employment Policy and Government Engagement
  • Week 5: Entrepreneurship and Employment Ecosystems
  • Week 6: Final Review & Wrap-up Topic Areas Included in Course Modules: The below themes and topic areas will be covered in the above listed course modules.
  • Technology: How Tech Start-ups are Tackling Corruption, Global Warming, and More
  • Agriculture: Building Wealth by Breaking the Rules of Traditional Farming
  • Education: Classroom Without Walls, Learning and Earning in the Real World
  • Health: How Young People are Driving Excellence in the Health Sector
  • Impact Investment: Measuring Return on Investment & Designing for Scale of Impact
    In this six week course, you will:
  • Learn about the greatest opportunities for innovations in youth employment in Africa, and how to break silos and foster effective collaboration across sectors
  • Create critical connections with others working on youth employment in Africa, including innovators, entrepreneurs, practitioners and policy makers.
  • Interact with guest expert speakers who have cutting-edge approaches towards enabling youth success, funding the sector, or shaping major shifts in the field
  • Increase knowledge about youth employment through discussion questions, group activities, and select readings.
  • Be able to recognize strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for increased impact in your work on youth employment in Africa.

    Training on Leadership and Branding for Young Leaders

     On 22th August, 2015, Pamoja Youth Initiative has organized Young Leaders training on Leadership and Branding, the training was a part of Pamoja Youth Initiative’s monthly programme on Civic Leadership.
    The training enabled the participants to engage with valuable resource persons and discuss diverse issues related to leadership, its challenges as well as the need of developing New Leadership Profiles for the Young Peoples who want to develop their career on Political, Business as well as Civic Leadership.



    The first two sessions of the training were dedicated to a thorough review of the leadership concept among Youth, and it started with a debate of whether great leaders are born or made. The discussion was very interesting and challenging one since all participants have been able to share their views on the concept of leadership. As a matter of the current situations of many Young Peoples to engage in Political Leadership and expose their leadership potentials within their parties, the discussion concentrated on the current crisis in leadership. Since it is seemed that many Young People who dedicated themselves to represent their parties for nomination of local Councilors as well as Members of the House of Representatives; many of these youth who are capable were not nominated by their parties.

    International Challenge on Economics Ideas Competition 2015

    The International Challenge on Economics Ideas (ICEI) is an international essay competition aimed towards undergraduate students from all over the world. ICEI is a nonprofit annual event that is organized by the Economics Student Association of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). All participants are expected to elaborate on the theme of “Financial Policy to Create Economic Sustainability”. Since 2006, ICEI has inspired many people to voice their thought via writing, impressing even the judges with the ideas of participant’s essay.
    Eligibility:
    All undergraduate students from any country in the world could take part in ICEI. Participants are required to submit a scanned copy of their student identity card or any other documents stating their current education status upon submitting the essay. Only individual submission is allowed. Team submission will be rejected.
    Prize:
    • 1st Place: USD 700, certificate, the Best Essays Compilation book, 10 minutes presentation in the FSDE seminar;
    • 2nd Place: USD 500, certificate, the Best Essays Compilation book;
    • 3rd Place: USD 300, certificate, the Best Essays Compilation book.
    The top three winners will be invited to attend the FSDE International Seminar in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, with VIP status and the privilege to talk with the speakers. (Tickets and accommodation will be subsidized by the committee).
    Submission Process:
    Participants can submit their essay by e-mail to icei.fsde2015@gmail.com (please download and follow the guideline carefully regarding the essay submission). The essay submission is open from June 1, 2015 to September 30, 2015 (21.59 UTC+7). Hardcopy of your essay is not necessary.
